The Exchange (Traveling) Fellowship Program was established in 1993. The goals of this program are:
- To provide maximum exposure to the major shoulder and elbow centers in the US, Asia, Australia, Europe, and Latin America.
- To facilitate learning and best clinical practices in shoulder and elbow patient care
- To enhance surgical skills and competencies among international surgeons
Applicants must be no more than 15 years out of fellowship as of December 31, 2025 and practicing in the United States or Canada, board eligible or certified orthopaedic surgeons with a special interest and experience in shoulder and elbow research and patient care. The program runs for 3-4 weeks.
2026 Traveling Fellows will receive the following benefits:
- Eligibility for an ASES Research Grant.
- All travel and hotel expenses will be covered and fellows will receive a small stipend after travel has been completed.
- After your traveling fellowship is complete, submit a testimonial to the ASES office which will be included on the ASES website as well as communicated through the monthly newsletter to members.

The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons helps to support traveling fellows from China, Japan and Korea visit major shoulder and elbow centers in the United States on a rotational basis.
- Chinese Fellows – Odd Years (i.e. 2025, 2027, etc.)
- Japanese Fellows – Even Years (i.e. 2026, 2028, etc.)
- Korean Fellows – Odd Years (i.e. 2025, 2027, etc.)

The Australian exchange fellowship with our partner organizations in Australia will begin in the fall of 2026. Applicants must be no more than 15 years out of their fellowship as of December 31, 2025, practicing in the United States or Canada, board eligible or certified orthopaedic surgeons with a special interest and experience in shoulder and elbow research and patient care.

In years alternating with the ASES European Exchange (Traveling) Fellowship, ASES members are pleased to host two SECEC/ESSSE members for a 5-6 week tour of shoulder centers across the United States.

The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons helps to support traveling fellows from the United States to visit major shoulder and elbow centers in the Europe on a rotational basis.
- Odd Years (i.e. 2025, 2027, etc.)
The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons helps to support traveling fellows from Latin America visit major shoulder and elbow centers in the United States on a rotational basis.

The traveling fellowship will allow two young Indian orthopedic surgeons to come spend time with expert orthopedic surgeons across the United States.

Inclusion Criteria
Fellows selected will be Indian physicians who are under 40 years old, have completed their orthopedic residency program, have been a fellow for at least 6 months, have been involved with IAS and/or SESI (preference given for members 2+ years), and are committed and passionate about advancing the field of Shoulder and Elbow surgery in India upon return. Consideration will be given to fellows across different regions of India. Fellows will provide reports throughout the experience as well as a final report upon completion of the fellowship.
