ASES Foundation 2023-2028 Strategic Plan

About the ASES Foundation

Established in 1983 as a trust and incorporated in 2016, the ASES Foundation has always been an integral part of ASES. Over the years the ASES Foundation has grown exponentially and became a “go to” charitable entity and a direct venue to support research and education in shoulder and elbow surgery. Individual donors, industry partners as well as other organizations have recognized the importance of the ASES Foundation in shaping the future of young physicians entering the field, and educating the clinical and academic community about care, surgical treatment options and prevention of injuries to the shoulder and elbow.

Recognizing the need for stable funding, the Foundation has successfully expanded its structure and operations resulting in many innovative programs and projects that benefit our subspecialty.  The ASES Foundation’s Board of Trustees appointed five (5) committees comprised of dedicated volunteers who have been working diligently to secure grants and individual donations.

The Strategic Planning Taskforce

After the leadership and new committees created several new programs, it became clear the Foundation needs to build a strategic path for the years to come. That is how a decision was made to develop our first strategic plan. The planning group, comprised of the Board of Trustees, invited leaders and key staff, worked in collaboration with Association Options LLC, to set the 2023-2028 strategic direction for the Foundation. The Strategic Planning Taskforce and Association Options worked in tandem to collect data, hold key discussions and formulate goals and strategies.

On June 2-3, 2023, an in-person workshop took place in Schaumburg, IL to further develop the plan. During the online seminar and onsite strategic planning session, the leaders of the Foundation engaged in extensive discussions to clarify the Foundation’s purpose and long-term vision. At the conclusion of these sessions, they successfully developed a mission statement that clearly defines why the Foundation exists, while also differentiating it from ASES. The vision statement was also crafted to create a distinct legacy of resources while incorporating key elements from the ASES vision. The strategic plan presented below is a result of this excellent work.
